The boys leave VERY early – the bus for the international school comes at 6:30AM. They take a shuttle bus that picks up kids all over Pretoria and drives them 40 minutes to their school outside of Jo’burg. The boys have been amazing troopers – not one word of complaint during this entire transition. They all seem pretty happy – trying new sports (volleyball) and activities (model UN) and starting to get comfortable with a very diverse group of classmates – there are 70 nationalities represented in this school of about 600!
We have our first official event on Wednesday night. We are hosting a dinner for leading high school basketball players from all over Africa who are here for a program with the NBA. Should be fun for our boys too! We got out of the city on Saturday to a reserve that raises lions for return to the wild. Four lions had been born just a few days before and we got to hold and play with them – truly like kittens. We also played with 7 month old cubs, which were a lot more rambunctious. They really liked Peter, who is sporting some scratches and a bruise as a result – he is quite proud that he can say he has now been clawed by a lion!
I’m starting to find my footing. I finally have a functioning cell phone and we have purchased a car which I hope to be able to drive by the end of the week – Sam is enjoy gasping as I drive on the right hand side– good payback from all of my gasping at his driving over the past few months. Our air freight also arrives by Thursday – we are all excited to have more than just what we put in our suitcases in Boulder, which feels so long ago! I’m visiting my first local non-profits this week – can’t wait to get more into the health and education issues here.
